Give your contact an alias

When you've many contacts in your SeaTalk account, it may be hard to differentiate them (e.g., some contacts may have similar names). To differentiate or highlight a specific contact, you can give them an alias.

For example, you may give your contact, John Doe, the alias "John (HR manager)" to help you identify him better.

Your contact will not see the alias you give them in their SeaTalk account.

Mobile

  • On your device, open the SeaTalk app.
  • At the bottom of your screen, tap Contacts.
  • Tap the contact you want to give an alias to. You can tap the contact's initials on the right to locate them.
  • In the upper right, tap the icon and select Set Alias.
  • Tap the contact's existing name or alias, and enter the alias you want to give them.
  • In the upper right, tap Done. Going forward, the contact will display the alias you've set in your SeaTalk account.

If you're already chatting with the contact you want to set an alias for:

  • Within the chat, tap their display picture.
  • In the upper right, tap the ... icon and select Set Alias.
  • Tap the contact's existing name or alias, and enter the alias you want to give them.
  • Once done, tap Done in the upper right. Going forward, the contact will display the alias you've set in your SeaTalk account.

Desktop

  • In the SeaTalk desktop application, click the Contacts icon in the left panel.
  • Click the contact you want to give an alias to. The list of contacts is sorted alphabetically, so you can scroll and locate the contact.
  • In the right panel, click the Edit icon next to Set Alias.
  • Enter the alias for the contact.
  • Once you're done, click the tick icon. Going forward, the contact will display the alias you've set in your SeaTalk account.

If you're already chatting with the contact you want to set an alias for:

  • Within the chat, click the contact's display picture.
  • In the pop-up box, click the Edit icon next to Set Alias.
  • Enter the alias for the contact.
  • Once you're done, click the tick icon. Going forward, the contact will display the alias you've set in your SeaTalk account.
