In a group chat, there may be important messages that you want to highlight to other members. To highlight such messages to all members in the group chat, pin a message in a group chat. Once these messages are no longer relevant, you can unpin them.

All members in the group chat can access these pinned messages.

Please note: this is not available for one-to-one chats.

Pin a message

Mobile

• On your device, open the SeaTalk app.
• Tap the group chat with the message you want to pin.
• Tap and hold the message you want to pin.
• In the pop-up box, select Pin. The message will be pinned in the group chat.

Desktop

• In the SeaTalk desktop application, click the group chat with the message you want to pin.
• Right-click the message you want to pin and select Pin. The message will be pinned in the group chat.

View pinned messages in a group chat

Mobile

• On your device, open the SeaTalk app.
• Tap the group chat with pinned messages you want to view.
• In the top right, tap the icon.
• Tap Pinned Group Messages. All messages that are pinned in the group chat will be shown, with the latest message on top.
• To view the message in the chat history, tap the ... icon in the top right corner of the message and select Find in Chat. You'll be brought to the message in the chat history.

Desktop

• In the SeaTalk desktop application, click the group chat with pinned messages you want to view.
• In the upper right, click the Pin icon.
• In the right panel, all pinned messages will be shown, with the latest message at the top.
• To view the message in the chat history, hover over the message and click the Find in chat icon. You'll be brought to the message in the chat history.

Unpin a message

You can unpin any pinned messages, including messages that were pinned by others.

Mobile

• On your device, open the SeaTalk app.
• Tap the group chat with pinned messages you want to view.
• In the top right, tap the icon.
• Tap Pinned Group Messages. All messages pinned in the group will be shown with the latest message on top.
• To unpin a message in the chat history, tap the ... icon in the top right corner of the message and select Unpin. The message will no longer be pinned.

If you’re already viewing a pinned message in the chat, you can tap and hold the pinned message and select Unpin.

Desktop

• In the SeaTalk desktop application, click the group chat with pinned messages you want to view.
• In the upper right, click the Pin icon.
• In the right panel, all pinned messages will be shown, with the latest message at the top.
• To unpin a message, hover over the message and click the Unpin icon in the upper right. The message will no longer be pinned.

If you’re already viewing a pinned message in the chat, you can right-click the pinned message and select Unpin.

Prevent other group members from pinning messages

By default, all members can pin messages in a group chat. If you’re the group admin, you can prevent members from pinning messages in the group.

Mobile

• On your device, open the SeaTalk app.
• Tap the group chat you want to manage.
• In the top right, tap the chat settings icon.
• Tap Group Management.
• To prevent other members from pinning messages in the group, toggle the Allow Others to Pin Message switch off. Going forward, no other members can pin messages in the group chat. You can always toggle the switch back on.

Desktop

• In the SeaTalk desktop application, click the group chat you want to manage.
• In the upper right, click the … icon.
• In the right panel, click Group Management.
• To prevent other members from pinning messages in the group, toggle the Allow Others to Pin Message switch off. Going forward, no other members can pin messages in the group chat. You can always toggle the switch back on.

FAQs

What happens if a pinned message is deleted?

If a message is deleted after it's pinned, it still remains as a pinned message in the chat group. Once it’s unpinned, it will be deleted completely.

What happens if a pinned message is recalled?

If a message is recalled after it's pinned, it will be removed as a pinned message immediately.
