Overview

SeaTalk supports a set of keyboard shortcuts on desktop to help you move around faster and perform common actions without reaching for the mouse. This article explains how keyboard navigation works, and best practices for using them.

Getting Started 

Keyboard Navigation Basics

Navigating around SeaTalk with your keyboard has now become easier. 

• Esc: exits pop-ups, closes overlays, or returns you to the previous layer. When you’re inside a conversation, Esc closes your chats and lets you return to a default state. 
• Arrow keys (↑ ↓): navigate within your chatlist and messages. Use ↑ and ↓ to move between items in the chat list or message list.
  • A blue box will appear around your interacted item. This represents that your particular message is currently focused on. 
  • Chatlist only: Enter on any item in the chatlist to open that chat. 
  • Chatroom only: Continue navigating onto any message via the up and down arrow keys. 

Message-level Actions While a Single Message is Focused:

• Open forward menu: F
  • Open the forward menu for the selected message.
• Open delete menu: D
  • Open delete options for the current message.
• Copy message content: C
  • Copy the content of the selected message (follows the per-message copy action).
• Translate message: T
  • Initiate translation for the focused message.
• Reply quoted message: Q 
  • Start a quoted reply to the selected message.
• Reply in thread: R
  • Open or reply in the thread for the selected message.
• Edit message: E
  • Open edit mode for the selected message (subject to editing permissions).

Multiple-message selection

• For opening the forward and delete menus, you can quickly select multiple messages at once by first selecting a message with your mouse and then shift + clicking on your desired message. All in-between messages will be selected. 
• A maximum of 100 messages can be selected.
